PICKET
by POST CARD
Initiated
26 Mar 2001
In the past the MRGRG has been able to effectively lobby the Congress, in reference to the military retiree medical care broken promise issue, on the Internet via e-mail. It is now being reported that Congress is overwhelmed with e-mail. As a result we need to adopt a new lobbying method. We need a new way to get attention. Picketing on the streets always gets attention. If a person builds a placard and stands on the street corner that person will get attention. Since it is not practical for us to stand on a street corner, due to our ages and physical limitations, we need to develop an alternate method for picketing. We also need to move our pickets and placards from the street into the offices of our Representatives.
We need to picket by Post Card.
We should continue to use regular mail letters, but let's examine the advantages and disadvantages of letters and post cards.
A letter must be opened. The reader must contend with the envelop and one or more sheets of paper. The reader must then struggle with reducing the letter to a single thought (issue). The letter is difficult to handle.
The post card does not have to be opened. It is easy to handle. If designed correctly the post card wording will contain one single thought (issue). The post card is easy to file. Issues can easily be categorized and counted. The post card is visual. The post card will be seen by many eyes. The post card simulates a placard.
In reference to the military retiree medical care broken promise issue, if you were to participate in a picket and carry a placard today what would your placard say? What are your major concerns at this time? What do you want to tell your Representative?
These are examples of what placards I have used:
