upon his retirement from 30 years on Capitol Hill
A previous recipient of the
National Association for Uniformed Services Distinguished Service Award and the
National Association for Uniformed Services Outstanding Service Award in 2000,
and recognition as an Unsung Hero of the legislation process in the May/June
2004 edition of the Uniformed Services Journal for his guidance on the
staff of Rep. Ronnie Shows (D-3-MS), in the passage of legislation establishing
TRICARE For Life (TFL), Phil Alperson continued to work as the Legislative
Director for Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-8-MD) to pass legislation to have the
government honor its promise of lifetime health care for military retirees,
family members, and survivors. He was the architect and the driving force
behind Rep. Van Hollen’s two current bills, Keep Our
Promise to America's Military Retirees Act, and Keeping Faith With the Greatest
Generation Military Retirees Act.
In his long career of service on Capitol Hill
for five members of Congress, Phil has worked tirelessly for the benefits of
those who served in the uniform of our country. NAUS is proud of its
association with Mr. Alperson and has the deepest appreciation of his dedication
to the principles of doing the right thing for our military retirees, veterans
and their families.
